Michael Anthony Aguilar
Michael Aguilar had been watching NASCAR since he was 7-years-old. At age 14, the La Porte High School graduate had his eye on this one car. "My step-dad and I went out to the local tracks to see this guy in Deer Park, Clyde Hickham who had some cars," he explained. "There the car was in his garage." His parents had bought it for him and they immediately started practicing at Houston Motor Sports Park. "The car was so bad I was spinning on every corner. We got it back to the garage and found that the suspension was bad," Michael said this week. "We really didn't know what we were getting into." After it was set up right he had the fastest car at the Sports Park for eight weeks in a row. Michael's ultimate goal is to compete in NASCAR in the Camping World series when he turns 20. At age 15 Michael was racing at the Texas Motor Speedway where as the NASCAR racers pulled off the track, he pulled on. In 2006 Michael was 16 years old. He was fast and running about fourth or fifth in the nation with his Bandolero. He went to Dallas that year, and back and forth had the lead with another car. Unfortunately he lost and "it took the good out of it," he said. The next race he didn't want to lose again. "I know I can win if the car is right," he stressed. The next race he qualified first and ran away from the field, finishing with a nine-second lead. That same year Michael won the Bandalero Texas State Championship. Michael's biggest support is his mother and step-dad who attend every race. "They went to North Carolina to visit family and found that my great uncle, David Ledford, use to drive race cars with Ralph and Dale Earnhart," Michael said. His "heart and soul" is his grandfather, Roy Dickson, who passed away from cancer. Michael will be dedicating the 2009 season in his name. Also on his list of heroes is his father, Michael Aguilar, who he calls his idol. His other grandmother, Patty Dewitt, is responsible for keeping his head on straight. "She won't let me get girlfriends," he added. Michael is currently talking to a NASCAR Team and if he wins the National Championships this year, it will help his chances to qualify. The 2009 National Championship date is not set yet. The second child in a family of seven brothers and sisters, Michael said, "I really love having a big family." He is a La Porte High School graduate and voted 'Most School Spirited" in 2007.
